Hong Kong is such a vibrant city that attracts millions of tourists coming for visiting, sightseeing, business, meetings or even just transiting through for half a day. Many have a mind picture of Hong Kong being a city with junk boats, jackie chan, bruce lee, street markets, buying silk, buying pearls, knock offs, san pans, tai pans, that floating restaurant, that Buddha? But what exactly is Hong Kong? What kind of a city it is?
I have been showing tourists around in Hong Kong for over 6 years! The common questions that I hear about are already encrypted into my head. I am the right person to come to for questions about Hong Kong who wants to know more than want regular tourists see or being shown around. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, I know this city like the back of my hand.
Common tourists those come to Hong Kong would want to go see the major sites such as the Peak, Stanley, night markets and possibly ride the Star Ferry. Many would join an organised coach tour where they will get to see the major sites, but only being told the standard script (a script that had been enforced by the tourism council for over 50 years). Those are information that has zero interesting facts, some are even irrelevant and most importantly being led to a jewelry factory listening on stories about how beautiful this piece would look on you (and you know what happens next!) and asking for tips before waving you goodbye. These kind of tours in my opinion are an absolute waste of time and money; it almost seem like an art of con.
The whole idea of seeing Hong Kong is not about how many site you get to see; it is about the journey of Hong Kong! When I will show you Hong Kong, I would get into the depth of local aspects in how, what and who would be like living in Hong Kong. Life here is so different that no other place on earth would alike. I would not show you food, but the whole local culinary culture, how it's formed to what it is today; and at the same time not missing out on some of the main must see attractions that draws tourist attentions (i.e. The Peak, Star Ferry… as part of the journey) and being told on facts that you would want to know about.
Almost all of my tours are offered on a customized purpose as I believe everybody is different into what they wanted to see. Of course I have my usual spots, but I am more into getting to know about you so I can show you only what interests you. So I don’t offer a fixed itinerary. I believe running on a scheduled itinerary will only limit on what you end up seeing. It is your tour made for you, showing you the true (and I only tell the truth) side of Hong Kong.
